Dear Friend of NE-CAP,
PLEASE – If you only do one thing, please watch this video!
Really beautiful and really inspiring – had me in tears. [And only 4 minutes.]
At the UN Climate Summit in New York in September 2014, poet Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner from the Marshall Islands issued an emotional call to action – reciting this poem, entitled “Dear Matafele Peinem”, dedicated to her 6 month old daughter. Go to:
1) Then you will want to join us, as we support “Time to Act”, the next event by Climate Action NE, the regional climate grouping! Saturday 7th March, 2.00-4.00pm, at Grey’s Monument, Newcastle. I will be giving one of the brief addresses.
We do this to demonstrate our shared concern for the future of our planet and its people, including our children and grandchildren.
2) Disgusted by the tax dodges, fiddles and scams of the big corporations and the rich in general? Me too!
So join NE-CAP in throwing your weight behind the demand for a ‘Tax Dodging Bill’ in the first 100 days of the new government, whoever they are! This is a multi-agency push, with some fine minds behind it, so you can support it with confidence. It will provide resources for essential services not only in low income countries, but here in the UK as well!
Read what Susan Matale, head of the Zambian Council of churches, says in the 2-page poster attached, and sign the petition at: http://taxdodgingbill.org.uk/
And watch the brief video entitled, “It’s time to get tough on the tax dodgers”, at:
3) Mark the date of the National rally by the Climate Coalition in London – 17th June 2015 – and plan to join us there! And please get on their mailing list, every one of you! Go go:http://www.theclimatecoalition.org/
Finally, although the turn-out for our AGM on Monday was a little disappointing, I think we all had a good time. We finished with four brief video’s, including “Dear Matafele Peinem” and the one on tax dodging mentioned above, and the links for the other two are given below.
“Make Poverty History – Drop the Debt”
“What’s aid ever been useful for? Absolutely nothing, except…”
With every good wish,
Dr David Golding CBE (Development Coordinator)
