‘Eve-of- Run’ events, Sat, from 4.30pm, in St Thomas’s Church

Dear Colleagues & Friends,

Our main gathering of the year – please join us if you can, and bring
friends and family. A flyer and further information are attached.

Not content with an unprecedented 75 in the JDC/University team in the Great
North Run, we will be welcoming senior staff members from not one, but THREE agencies, each of which has an outstanding record in the fight against
global poverty, to our ‘Eve-of-Run’ events. [All three agencies will have
staff in our team in the Run on the Sunday.]

They are Tim Jones, Senior Policy officer at Jubilee Debt Campaign UK;
Diarmaid McDonald, Advocacy Manager at STOPAIDS; and Chris Venables,
Programme Officer at Medact. They will give HIGHLY CONCISE presentations
(following the format of ‘Just a Minute’, perhaps!) and answer questions
relating to debt, AIDS and climate change, respectively. An interesting and
inspiring event is guaranteed!

Because of its high profile, the event will constitute the 3rd ‘Newcastle
Jubilee Development Lecture’, co-sponsored by Newcastle University, the
Anglican Diocese of Newcastle and Jubilee Debt Campaign. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Cllr and Mrs Graham; Bishop Frank White and other
distinguished guests have promised to attend. The University’s Executive
Board will be represented by Richard Dale.

After light refreshments, the ‘Multi-Lecture’ will be followed by ‘The Sixth
Annual Service of Blessing for the Great North Run and those in need at home
and abroad’, from 6.00-6.30pm. This will be an accessible service of
Christian worship, Revd Catherine Lack presiding, to which those of all
faiths and none are invited. It is sponsored by the Newcastle University
Chaplaincy and North East CALL TO ACTION.

Let’s see ‘St Tom’s’ packed out for these unique events!

With every good wish,

David
